A little etiquette tip for Lindsay Lohan: when you're invited to a charity gala, don't assume it's being thrown in your honour.
OK, OK -- some might argue poor little LiLo could use all the help she can get, and those people probably haven't even caught up on all the goss of alleged afterparty meltdowns and lip injections that's come out of Lohan's appearance at a New York amfAR benefit Wednesday night. Could Lohan use a reality check and a few more rounds of court-ordered therapy? Quite possibly. A new diamond watch, however? Very nice -- but not exactly practical (unless she's planning to hock it and pay down some legal fees).
There was a sparkly, Hublot timepiece up for grabs as part of Wednesday’s amfAR gala auction. According to the New York Post's Page Six, the watch was going for $20,000 US. Lohan wanted it.
Lohan did not, however, have $20,000 to drop. Still -- so overwhelmed by the spirit of charity -- Page Six says Lohan began scanning the room for a philanthropic soul, one so pure of heart and deed they might make a non-deductible contribution to the Lohan Fund.
Her target? An unnamed "Canadian financier."Maybe Lohan knows him, maybe she thinks Herbie Fully Loaded is Canada's best-loved movie of all time. Whatever the case, Page Six reports Lohan sent an assistant over to "schmooze" up the guy.
As one witness told the paper: "After chatting with the businessman, Lindsay sent over an assistant, who said, 'Lindsay would very much like it if you'd bid on this item as a gift."To our nation's credit, the man reportedly turned her down, then proceeded to behave as anyone might in a similar situation: "He just cracked up," said Page Six's source.
Lohan's rep dismissed the story, telling Page Six: "This is another instance of people making up stories about Lindsay."So, we guess she didn't get the watch, then? Page Six reports amfAR managed to raise $1.4 million US for AIDS research through the auction.
